The idea for this painting came from wanting to paint an old rotary phone, but to present it in an interesting way. I thought the phone hanging down would be cool, but what event/news in the past might have excited someone so much to leave the phone off the hook? Drawing from my previous Beatles record painting, I thought the day the Beatles came to America might be a good event. Someone receiving a phone call from a friend hearing the Beatles are here might trigger them to rush out the door leaving the phone hanging down the wall. So the daily calendar in this piece is be set to Feb 7th, 1964, the day the Beatles landed in America

WWII Rations - 9" x 18" Oil on Panel - Sold

Click thumbnails to enlarge detail images

Picture
These rations are some of the items that servicemen would have received during WWII.  This particular group of rations would be considered a "Smoker's Dinner Unit" because of the addition of the small 4 - pack of cigarettes.  The off labeled "Pork Luncheon Meat" produced by Hormel Foods is indeed re- labeled Spam.  It's probably not the most nutritious meal, but it's what they had in the 1940's.

Won the "Grand Prize in Painting" award in the 72st Wabash Valley Exhibition.

Faithful Nichols - 16" x 12" Oil on Panel - Sold

Picture
This painting was created as a tribute to the greatest trompe l'oeil painter of the late 19th century, William Harnett. He completed a painting in 1890 titled "Faithful Colt", so I painted "Faithful Nichols". You can see Harnett's painting here.
It also won the Grand Prize in Painting at the 71st Annual Wabash Valley Juried Exhibition at the Swope Art Museum.

Something a little different here. Instead of painting the wrench straight on, I viewed it from 45 degrees and constructed the panel to mimic the perspective.
